Conversion of former fire station, Irlam
Project Description: Conversion of former fire station to 9 residential apartments
Project status: Approved (Under construction)
Clarendon road fire station, Salford
Instructed by Zolger Developments Ltd and DOVE Architecture and Design, I supported the preparation and progression of a planning application for the contemporary conversion of the former fire station into nine apartments.
I prepared and submitted a justification statement for the scheme to address the local conservation officers comments and dealt with potential contamination and planning policy issues relating to housing mix and local space standards. Additionally, I prepared and submitted representations to the council in relation to highways, disability access, materials and site layout.
Despite achieving a recommendation for approval from the planning officer, the application was to be determined by the Council’s planning committee. I attended the committee, speaking in favour of the proposal to overcame local objections and achieved a unanimous decision to approve the application.
I am now retained to advise the client as the project moves into the construction phase, assisting with amendments to the scheme and compliance with conditions. Completion is expected in autumn 2019.
